The Microtrac Dust Monitor is a measurement instrument used to characterize the amount of dust in powders and granulates. The DustMon is a newly designed measurement system based on proven measurement techniques.
The two models of the Microtrac Dust Monitor utilize LED or Laser light sources which offer a very long life of a minimum of 100,000 hours. The sample amount is from 1 to 200 grams predicated upon the material, typically 30 gm. The average measurement time is typically 3 minutes using light extinction technology. The robust design guarantees the users a long lifetime with reliable results.
The DustMon L and DustMon LS models each consist of 5 basic elements:
- dosing control system sample beaker with butterfly valve
- detachable delivery tube (easy to snap in and out of instrument body)
- sample collection tray
- light source (L = LED, LS = LED & Laser)
- detector
The sample is filled into the sample beaker. After starting the measurement the valve opens and the sample drops down through the delivery tube into the sample collection tray. After dropping into the tray the dust from the sample will rise into the measurement area between the light source and the detector. Depending on the concentration of dust the light intensity will decrease. This is a direct indication for the amount of dust in a sample. The DustMon L is ideal for high dust concentrations while the DustMon LS adds laser power to the system to optimize results for measuring both high and low dust concentration samples.
